This was a niggling problem for so many years, and I didn't know the solution was
right under my nose.
In Ubuntu, if you want to take a screenshot of the entire screen, use the
PrtScn key on the keyboard. Everyone knows that.
To take a screenshot of the current active window, press
Alt key and the
PrtScn key together. Most people know that too.
What most people don't know is that you can take a screenshot of a rectangular selection of an area on your screen by pressing Shift and PrtScn together, and then using the mouse pointer to select an area on the screen.
Oh...how much time it'd have saved me if I knew this earlier!!!
On a Mac you can do the same using pressing the keys
Command Shift 4 together.
